Digital Earth Offers Open Data App Opp

Mix & Mash is an initiative encouraging innovative use of New Zealand content and data, including government sourced open data. In conjunction with Mix & Mash, we are pleased to announce an Open Data category at Wellington Startup Weekend seeking the best and brightest idea that contributes to environmental and social progress.

This year Wellington is also playing host to the 4th Digital Earth Summit in September – a perfect opportunity for Open Data Startup winners to push things further.

2012 Mix & Mash Open Data Category

There is a wealth of New Zealand open data just waiting to be used in clever solutions that benefit our planet’s social and environmental well being and solve real world problems for users. Mix & Mash NZ, wants to reward the best Wellington Startup Weekend idea that takes up this challenge and so invites developers and designers to step forward and get involved. Build and test your New Zealand prototype at Startup Weekend, then go out and conquer the world!

If your Wellington Startup Weekend Open Data idea:

1. uses at least one New Zealand open data-set found through Data.govt.nz, and

2. demonstrably contributes to environmental and/or social progress;

…then your team will be in the running for a $500 cash prize PLUS a $500 Pressie Card and a fantastic opportunity to showcase your app at the world renowned Digital Earth Summit in September. We’re looking forward to seeing amazing ideas turn into useful solutions for our environment and society. So we are specifically looking for developers and designers with great ideas for an Open Data App. Remember, you need to form a team, develop your idea and build your app during Wellington Startup Weekend 27-29 July.
